The Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible: 100 Gorgeous Beauty Products to Make Easily at HomeThe Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible: 100 Gorgeous Beauty Products to Make Easily at Home

This book has some great recipes in it, but the US version uses cup and spoon measurements for the most part which are totally inaccurate when using ingredients like beeswax and cocoa butter.

The author mentions using a microplane-type grater, interchangeably with using beeswax "granules", which might be very small over in the UK, but might be larger here in the US, depending on where you buy them. Are you supposed to pack the grated beeswax down? How firmly (think brown sugar here, to get the same idea)? The author doesn't say. You can't reproduce this kind of recipe correctly without using exact measurements (it is like making soap, you want the proper ratio of solid wax/oils to liquids). A "heaping tablespoon" of cocoa butter? How high?

The UK version of this book has the measurements in grams and ounces--I happened to see an article with some of the recipes printed, and was able to borrow the book at my local library, but it is the US version. I wish the author and/or publisher would issue corrections to the ingredient amounts on their respective websites. Otherwise, you will spend your time fiddling with the beeswax/cocoa butter amounts, which will in turn cause the other ingredient amounts to be off. Who has time to be doing that? We *can* get digital scales here, and they're not as expensive as you might think
